This is part of the variety of fasteners found when I dissembled the recent repairs to the hull.  Missing are the rusted finish nails.  The screws were square drive, rose drive, and phillips head.  The nails; SS ring shank, cut nails and wrought clinch nails. Found myself constantly changing bits and various extractors as I went along.

Keel, held in place with an assortment of angle irons, several kinds of screws, nails and glue. Stuffing box was anchored with two SS bolts that did not seem to be attached to anything. Bottom in this pic has been replace with 1" rough sawn pine complete with several large knots.

New and old sections of bottom planks.  All have been removed. Lower edge of plank left with a ragged assortment of nail holes.  Nails were wrought iron.  Interesting to discover the laps were all nailed with wrought iron clinch nails.

Old coaming has been removed, too badly damaged to save, no real rot anywhere in boat except along the bottom edge of garboard near stern.

last frame before transom, part has been remove, showed the "dory clamp" which could not be removed without doing more damage so my trusty pull saw took it out.

lapstrakes are remarkably free from paint buildup. photo shows transom knee and remains of steering cable as well as new (now removed) pine bottom. The yellow stuff is foam in a can that previous owner used to fill any gaps in his work.

Lake Champlain Launch

Here are some pictures of the newly acquired launch
Here she is, with the cover in place
 Planking seems to be cedar, frames, stem, transom, white oak.

 The metal work hanging down from the transom was to hold the bottom of the rudder and was clearly a new installation to replace what must have been the original. The skeg is held in place by numerous pieces of strap iron.  All must go.

 I will take a close up of the frames hardware.  Each joint has a cast iron piece that secures the members, never saw anything like it before but I bet someone will be able to tell me.  Might lead to a clue as to what or who built it.

 Not sure what the pipe on the foredeck is for.  Seems to be brass and is threaded, but does not extend below the surface of the decking.

 Sadly the coaming got damaged due to rough handling but may be salvageable. the pine planks used to  repair the bottom has some pretty large knots. The frames seem to be white oak as is the transom.  Wondering what the decking and planking are/  Cedar?

Nice piece of work on the cockpit cover. Someone, at some time in the past, loved this boat, and I want to honor that by trying to save her.

 The sheer caught my eye and I found it very pleasing.  Funny how that works. Where the green cord passes through the eye is white oak and it is surrounded by a steel strap the extends from 6 inches onto the foredeck, up over the stem and down about 6 inches below the eye.  All seems pretty solid.

Top photo shows inside of patch in above photo.  Held in place with drywall screws til epoxy cures. Next step will be two layers of 12 oz biax on the outside and hopefully one on the inside, although that might be easier said than done.  Maybe after I flip the hull.

More work on fixing holes and fairing the bow

Did some more on fairing the patches in the bow, got it pretty good and now need to fill the weave and sand.  There are two layers of 12 oz biax tape over the new cutwater.

Nothing much happening right now, waiting for some 40 grit sandpaper.  While waiting figured out how I am going to patch some of the horrendous holes in the hull.
